Melanie Rivera Flores's latest solo exhibition 'Church of Care' is spatial installation based on her proposal "Children, Kitchen, Church", a virtual space dedicated to the work of care. The term care work refers to the activity or occupation of looking after the welfare of another person, usually babies, children, the sick, the disabled and the elderly. It can be paid or unpaid, and most or all of the latter is usually performed by women in their homes. It is not seen as a "real job," but as an undertaking taken on out of affection or responsibility. "The Church of Care" is an ode to care work, a tribute that seeks to enshrine the unpaid part of this work as divine. The exhibition space becomes a church of worship in which the caregiver has been transformed into a sacred figure and the work of care is presented as a sacred vocation.
The exhibition was celebrated in May 2023. Berlin, Germany.
